Prison Island also known as Changu Island is a small island 5.6 km north-west of Stone Town. The island was bought in 1893 by British First Minister of Zanzibar, and constructed a prison however no prisoners were ever kept in the island and was instead a quarantine station for yellow fever cases.
Now a day the island is a government-owned tourist attraction and has became a house of endangered Aldabra giant tortoises which were originally a gift from the British governor of the Seychelles.
Our tour guide will picked you up from the hotel and bring you to the boat, get your equipment for snorkeling fitted before you leave. The boat will take you to Prison island and then bring you for snorkeling. Then back to the main Island of Unguja.
PLAN OF THE DAY:
Pick up from hotel in Stone Town for a 30 min boat ride to Prison Island
Choice of morning or afternoon departure
Taking your dive equipment hop on the speed boat to head to the Island
take the tour on the island, go swimming, lunch is availabel at the restaurant
the boat will take you back to unguja when your ready to depart
WHAT NOT TO MISS:
The Aldabra Giant Tortoise sanctuary the oldest tortoise is 192 years old.
You can feed them at a fee paid at the Island, but watch out for their snapping beaks.
Enjoy the marine life and go snorkeling or diving with the most extensive or varied snorkelling spot off the coast of Zanzibar
